Summary

Based on the RAV4, the “AZ20”-generation Lexus NX is the brand’s latest offering for the compact luxury segment. Although the outside looks similar to the previous generation, the inside is a huge step up, and so are the powertrains. Aside from the disappointing, buzzy naturally-aspirated 2.5L found in the base NX 250, the turbocharged engine in the 350 and the hybrid offerings – particularly the plug-in hybrid powertrain in the 450h+ that is shared with the much lauded RAV4 Prime – offer relatively strong performance and, in the case of the hybrids, very impressive fuel economy.

Although still relatively small, the NX uses its interior volume well much like the RAV4 upon which it is based. Legroom and cargo capacity are not in short supply. The standard safety features on offer are also impressive, as is Lexus’ ever-present warranty (particularly for coverage on hybrid components).
