Genesis GV70

Model Years Produced: 2021 to Current

They say that the “third time is the charm,” but in Genesis’ case, “fourth time” would probably be more appropriate. Although great vehicles, the G80,  G70, and GV80 have had trouble capturing the consciousness of the automotive buying public. The GV70 changed all of that. With its stunning looks – both on the inside and out – and brand new “Smartstream” engines, it immediately swept up Motor Trend’s coveted “SUV of the Year” award and steamrolled over its more established Japanese competitors from Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti, even threatening Germans like the BMW X3 and Audi Q5. Only time will tell if the GV70 can truly rise above its European rivals.

The GV70’s only real flaw is that it must be sold and serviced at Hyundai dealerships. Genesis does not yet have separate dealerships like Lexus, Acura, or Infiniti; rather, they are integrated into existing Hyundai dealerships. Unfortunately for prospective Genesis buyers, Hyundai sales and service people are rather more equipped for selling and servicing a $15,000 Accent to someone with poor credit than a $60,000 luxury car to someone who’s cross-shopping with the latest BMW or Lexus, and it’s a problem that Hyundai/Genesis are desperately trying to solve (though it will take time).
