Audi A6 & A7 (C8)
Model Years Produced: 2020 to Current
Summary
The “C8” generation of the A6 and A7 – not to be confused with the “C8” generation of the Chevrolet Corvette – are Audi’s midsize cars. Curiously, while the A6 and the sporty S6 are sedans, the fire-breathing RS6 is only available as a station wagon, while the A7, S7, and RS7 all keep their “Sportback” body style.
They’re unassuming, perhaps even “beige” in the case of the A6, but beautifully appointed inside with smooth engines and the excellent chassis tuning for which Audi has become known.
Primary Criticisms
Major
- Complex powertrains and electronics mean this is probably something you won’t want to own out of warranty
Minor
- Touchscreen climate control
- Heavy for their class
- S6, S7, and RS7 don’t have the same raw edge that their competitors like the CT5-V Blackwing and even the M5 do

S6
The S6 has always been the most stealthy of the German sport sedans, and the C8 generation is no exception to this. Aside from some subtle body work and large wheels, it is difficult to tell that it houses a near-450hp twin-turbo V6 under the hood and that it can do 0-60 in 4 seconds just by looking at it. Looks can be deceiving.

S7
Smooth and fast, the S7 is a stealthy luxo-barge that scythes through traffic with the greatest of ease thanks to its twin-turbo V6 and mild-hybrid system that feeds into an electric supercharger. Even so, the S7 is still quite porky, weighing in at nearly 4600 lbs – almost as much as a P38 Range Rover. The extra weight isn’t so noticeable during acceleration, as the S7 can still pull off 0-60 times as low as 4.1 seconds, but this is not a track weapon no matter how well the sophisticated suspension and chassis tuning tries to mask its mass.

RS7
The RS7 gains a twin-turbo V8 shared with the Porsche Panamera Turbo along with rear-axle steering that helps make this large barge somewhat more maneuverable despite weighing nearly 2.5 tons. It’s ultra-livable and beautiful, but those looking for more performance should try out offerings from Mercedes, BMW, or even Cadillac.
