Mercedes-AMG GT

Mercedes-AMG GT

Model Years Produced: 2016 to 2021

Summary

The Mercedes-AMG GT is a baby supercar that punches well above its weight. Originally intended as just a Porsche 911 and Audi R8 competitor, the GT evolved into something more over the course of its 6-year lifespan thanks to its ferocious hand-built dry-sump twin-turbo V8 and impressive driving dynamics.

Even the “base” version of the GT produces 469 horsepower (523 for model year 2021), more than enough to propel the car to 60 mph in under 4 seconds and give it a top speed of nearly 200 mph. The long nose is reminiscent of old muscle cars and other sports cars like the Dodge Viper and C7 Corvette, classic sports car proportions. Despite the engine being up-front, the GT technically has a mid-engine layout – it’s behind the front axle.

As far as livability is concerned, the GT still has a somewhat comfortable ride with its suspension in the softest setting. Forward visibility isn’t great thanks to the long nose and low seating position. The ergonomics aren’t as natural as a 911, but they’re not bad and interior quality is still largely good. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto became standard in model year 2020.
